Electric Fence Insulator Upgrade

None

Over the past month, the Inland Fisheries Service has been gradually upgrading electric fence insulators on river access projects across the State. Upgrades have been completed so far on the Huon, Macquarie, Lake and Meander rivers, while those on the River Leven will be completed before the opening of the 2012-13 angling season.

The upgrade has been in response to feedback from anglers that the original black poly tube insulators are less effective during rain or heavy dew. The new insulators are 22 mm white PVC tube and provide greater protection from electric shock as well as higher visibility. Crossing points where insulators are installed are usually marked by an electric fence sign or access symbol or both. Anglers are requested to report any instances of missing or damaged insulators to the IFS so they can be repaired or upgraded.
