Boosting the population of an endangered species

Over the past seven years the Inland Fisheries Service has been transferring captured Paragalaxias mesotes from Arthurs Lake to Woods Lake in an effort to boost the population in Woods Lake. Paragalaxias mesotes is endemic to both waters but the population in Woods Lake had diminished to the point where it was not found in surveys in the early 2000's.

Approximately 3,000 of these fish have been translocated from Arthurs Lake to Woods Lake since 2005. Recently another 560 were moved to Woods Lake. This work will hopefully keep the population of this endangered species established within its historical distribution.
