Trout Weekend 2025 - Cancelled

The Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) has recently been busy preparing for Trout Weekend 2025 – which was scheduled for 17 and 18 May 2025.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing dry conditions and a limited rain forecast for the coming weeks, the IFS has decided to cancel the event.
Current water levels in Lake Augusta are insufficient to maintain the required flow in the Liawenee canal to encourage fish up into the spawning traps.
While Hydro Tasmania has been managing water levels in Lake Augusta in line with our Memorandum of Understanding, the low autumn inflows means that it is prudent to hold water in the lake to support the spawning run into June, rather than releasing it prior to Trout Weekend in May.
A decision has been made to cancel the event now to provide advance notice to participants and to protect the broader management of our fishery.
Due to Trout Weekend now having been cancelled for two years in a row because of low autumn rainfall, the IFS is carefully considering the future of the event which has traditionally been held on the third weekend in May, and is exploring other engagement ideas and opportunities.
Exhibitors and vendors affected by the cancellation and wanting more information can contact Steve Paterson, Manager (Compliance) on 0438 338 530.
We apologise to anglers and community members for the cancellation of Trout Weekend 2025.
