Come to Trout Weekend and see the working fish trap
Trout Weekend returns to the IFS Liawenee Field Station for 2022 on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May.
The wild brown trout spawning run is at its peak with thousands of fish moving up Liawenee Canal. Bring your walking boots and enjoy a walk down Liawenee Canal to see the working fish trap. This is a nice 3km return walk that will take about 1 hour.
This year, to keep us all COVID-safe, Trout Weekend goes back to its roots as an outdoor event celebrating and focusing on the wild brown trout spawning run.
Crowd favourites are back including wild brown trout ova stripping and live fish displays.
You will be able to talk to IFS staff about anglers access, fisheries projects, carp control and compliance operations.
Hydro Tasmania, MAST, Biosecurity Tasmania and Marine Resources (NRE Tasmania) are joining us for the weekend.
You can buy your lunch or a snack. There will be food and beverage.
This year there will no junior angling ponds and to make sure the event is COVID-safe there are no trade stalls, cooking demonstrations or fish smoking displays.
We hope we see you at Liawenee for Trout Weekend 2022.
