Wild Tasmanian brown trout

Over the weekend Inland Fisheries Officers were busy patrolling the Central Highlands.  With clear blue skies and light winds, the 19 Lagoons area was popular with anglers.

Boat anglers were rewarded with good numbers of fish from Lake Ada.  Anglers fishing Lake Botsford and Rocky Lagoon also found some nice fish.

Lake Augusta was also popular with both boat and shore anglers. Howes Lagoon Bay was fishing well with one angler catching 6 fish in an hour and half - mostly around the 1.5 to 2 lb size range.

Anglers reported seeing good numbers of fish in Second Lagoon, but a careful approach and good presentation was needed to land some good fish.

Anglers willing to walk a bit further were rewarded with some larger fish and there were plenty of stories of the big one that got away.

Yingina / Great Lake continues to be a popular destination, especially for anglers targeting the early morning and wind lane fishing which has been excellent recently.  There are still two $5,000 tagged trout in Yingina / Great Lake, waiting to be caught as part of the 2024-25 Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion.
