Arthur River Estuary Perch sign

A sign has recently been installed at the Arthur River boat ramp with information relating to the protected fish, the estuary perch (Percalates colonorum). In Tasmania, the estuary perch is only found in the Arthur River. Due to their restricted and low population numbers, they are listed as a protected fish under the Inland Fisheries Act 1995.

  • It is an offence to fish for, take, or be in possession of estuary perch.
  • Any estuary perch caught should be released immediately.
  • Significant penalties apply for taking protected fish.
  • Ongoing monitoring of the estuary perch population is currently being undertaken.
  • If you catch a tagged estuary perch while fishing for other species, take note of the tag number before release, and report it to 1300 INFISH or email infish@ifs.tas.gov.au
  • If you suspect or see illegal fishing activity, report it using the contacts details above, or on 0438 338 530.
