Jeff and his $5,000 Craigbourne Dam Trout

When Jeff Limbourne and his neighbour decided to try somewhere new to fish, little did he think at the end of the day he would be $5,000 richer!

Jeff and his neighbour, who both live in the middle of prime trout fishing territory at yingina / Great Lake, decided to fish Craigbourne Lake as it was somewhere Jeff had never fished before.

With their fishing gear packed, they headed off with a couple of mates in tow, and hit Craigbourne Lake in the afternoon.

Fishing from the shore and just on evening, Jeff hooked a better than average trout, and after a protracted tussle, with the fish making several energetic jumps out of the water, he managed to land it.

He was excited with the size of the 2.5 kg brown trout but even more so once he realised he had landed a fish with a yellow tag!

Jeff knew about the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) tagged trout competition so quickly rang the IFS to find out the details and was delighted to be told he had indeed caught a winner.

Jeff is the latest recipient of $5,000, following two other winners over recent months as part of the Tagged Trout Promotion supported by the Tasmanian Government, encouraging people to go freshwater fishing.

There are still thirteen tagged brown trout swimming around nine different waters within the state.

For details on where to catch the next one, go to the Inland Fisheries website (www.ifs.tas.gov.au).
