Easter Fishing Report 2025

Darren Waters from St Helens showing off a nice rainbow trout caught Easter Monday, on bait from the shore of Christmas Bay - Yingina / Great Lake

Well... anglers in the highlands of Tasmania were treated to warm, calm and sometimes overcast / drizzly conditions over the Easter period in 2025.

Our Officers were patrolling, speaking to nearly 170 anglers and conducted over 40 boat safety inspections. Pleasingly there were very few offences detected and people were happy to be out of the house and taking advantage of the weather.

Lake Sorell and Yingina / Great Lake were the standout waters for reported catches over the Easter period, with all methods taking fish in the 2-3lb range, with some 5lb fish reportedly taken at Lake Sorell.

Bait fishing from the shore at Yingina / Great Lake is becoming more productive now the water temperatures are dropping, leading into the cooler months. The winter rains are going to be welcome for most locations when they arrive.

The IFS are again extending the season for the Bradys chain of lakes, supported by fish stockings in the near future. For more information please see our separate story here, the Infish App and our Latest Fish Stocking database page on our website.
