Brook trout are only found in a small number of waters in Tasmania, including Clarence Lagoon.

To assist anglers find this remote lagoon and to protect the fishery and the natural values of the area, the IFS has published a fact sheet and map with helpful information for visitors. Situated on the southern edge of the Central Plateau Conservation Area, Clarence Lagoon is accessed by 4 kilometres of high clearance 4WD track from the Lyell Highway. The final 400 m is foot access only from a parking area south of the lagoon.

As Clarence Lagoon is in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, fuel stoves only are permitted. Please protect the values of this sensitive area and the rare opportunity it offers to catch a brook trout.
