After an intensive 28-year program, European carp (Cyprinus carpio) have now been declared functionally eradicated from Lake Sorell, meaning the few, if any, remaining carp are unable to breed.

From 1995 to 2023, 41,504 carp were removed from Lake Sorell and 7,797 from Lake Crescent. Only one carp was caught this season, despite the ideal spawning conditions and maintaining focussed netting effort in the marshes.
