Earlier this week the Inland Fisheries Service commenced preparations for the annual rainbow trout spawning run at Liawenee, which normally kicks off in late August.

An electrofishing survey of the dedicated spawning channels at Liawenee was undertaken to collect any yearling rainbow trout remaining in the channels from the 2023 spawning run.

The spawning channels provide improved habitat for natural rainbow trout recruitment into yingina / Great Lake and provide a source of wild fry for stocking a small number of assisted fisheries.

The best way to keep up to date on our stocking program is to regularly visit our website at www.ifs.tas.gov.au or by accessing stocking information via the InFish app.

The InFish app also makes it easy to log your fishing information via the Angler Diary feature.
