Huntsman Lake jetty complete
The Huntsman Lake boat ramp renewal and upgrade project, including construction of a 70 m long jetty adjacent to the boat ramp is now complete and open. The project was partly funded under the Australian Government’s Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program in partnership with the Tasmanian Government and delivered by Meander Valley Council, Marine and Safety Tasmania, Tasmanian Irrigation and the Inland Fisheries Service.
Since 2007, Huntsman Lake has become an important regional recreational asset for fishing, kayaking and public recreation. There are two developed day use areas with picnic facilities and public toilets.
The jetty has been built to address safety issues associated with launching and retrieving boats to improve the amenity of the boat ramp and encourage increased participation in recreational fishing by families, the elderly, and people with impaired mobility. The jetty may also be used by kayakers and other passive water sports. A 5 knot speed limit applies to Huntsman Lake.
Huntsman Lake has populations of both brown and rainbow trout and is open to angling all year round for bait, lure and fly fishing. With recent inflows the lake level is rising so fishing close to the flooded edges will be rewarding for all methods. Boaters, please be aware of floating debris around the lake.
