Last week IFS staff completed the annual native fish surveys in Arthurs and Woods lakes.

Surveys, using small mesh fyke nets, are undertaken around this time every year to monitor population levels of saddled galaxias and Arthurs paragalaxias.

The Arthurs Lake survey revealed a good number of both saddled galaxias and Arthurs paragalaxias.

A low number of saddled galaxias were caught in Woods Lake, with a single Arthurs paragalaxias also captured.

This is the first time that Arthurs paragalaxias have been detected in Woods Lake since 2021.
